The boy was arrested and charged with operating a stolen vehicle, but two juveniles who were passengers in the SUV who fled the scene will not be charged, WPRI reported.

Providence Police Captain Richard Fernandes said that around 4 p.m. EST, an officer spotted an SUV driving erratically, the television station reported. The officer attempted to stop the driver but called off the pursuit because of heavy traffic, according to WPRI.

Several minutes later, Fernandes said another officer noticed the SUV had crashed near an intersection.

Surveillance footage obtained by WPRI showed that the driver of the SUV ran a stop sign and crashed into the minivan. The impact sent the minivan into a home. The teen attempted to drive away but lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another home, police said.

The driver of the minivan was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, WPRI reported.
