Drive under tunnel of lights at Santa’s Ranch in New Braunfels

A New Braunfels holiday tradition will continue this year at Santa’s Ranch. This family-friendly drive-through takes guests through more than a mile of winding country roads lit up with holiday lights and Christmas displays. Santa’s Ranch, which originally opened in 2003, will open to the public for the 2021 season on Nov. 5 and will be available through Jan. 2. Hours are 6 -10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Santa’s Ranch is located at 9561 I-35 North in New Braunfels - just look for the 50-foot Christmas tree. Event coordinators provided directions on the website and said if YOU ARE traveling from San Antonio, go North on I-35 and take exit 200. Take the turnaround at Centerpoint, stay straight on the access road and stay in the right lane and you’ll see the Christmas tree.

San Antonio’s Diwali Festival of Lights returns to Hemisfair brighter than ever, SAT 5PM FREE

The city will celebrate Indian culture at the 13th annual Diwali SA Festival of Lights from 6 to 10 p.m. Diwali, an Indian holiday that coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates the triumph of good over evil, when Rama defeated the evil spirit Ravana. Since 2009, the City of San Antonio alongside Anuja SA has been honoring the cultural tradition with a big and bright festival. It is now acknowledged asthe largest city-sanctioned Diwali celebration in the United States. The San Antonio festival also seeks to foster the Sister City relationship between Chennai, India. Music, live entertainment, and a sea of bright lights will fill the park. This year, the festival area will have double the footprint of years past, spanning from Alamo Street to the Tower of the Americas. A drum line featuring drummers from 12 different regions of India will lead a procession between the two locations. There will also be more lights than ever before, according to the City of San Antonio. A dozen Indian floor art pieces called Rangoli or Kolam will also be on display at the festival for the first time. Traditionally, the designs are made for the entryway of a home or temple to greet guests. COVID-19 safety measures will be in effect, including hand sanitizing stations and masking for staff. The outdoor event is free and open to the public.

Get free entry to all Texas State Parks on Nov. 14 in honor of Veterans Day

Veterans Day is November 11

In Honor of Veterans Day this year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is offering free entry to all Texas State Parks on Nov. 14. Veterans Day actually falls on Nov. 11, which is a Thursday, but state officials are offering the benefit on a Sunday. Daily entrance fees will be waived for all day-use visitors, according to TPWD officials. “The dedication, sacrifice and service displayed by the women and men that serve in our country’s military is unparalleled and is a source of pride throughout the country,” said TPWD director Rodney Franklin. “Their commitment to service undoubtedly inspires us at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.” TPWD officials have also offered free entry to state parks in honor of Veterans Day in the past. Reserving day passes for state parks ahead of time is still encouraged as some parks are expected to reach their capacity limit. Day passes can be reserved online through the TPWD website or over the phone by calling (512) 389-8900.
