CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING

San Antonio has 5 locations where you can take your Christmas tree to turn into mulch, according to the City of San Antonio’s Facebook page. HERE IS what you need to know before you drop-off:

Remove all lights, decorations and stands. Do not bag trees. Trees over 6 feet should be cut in half. No live wreaths, garlands or plants will be accepted.

Here are a list of available locations for drop-off: Bitters Brush Recycling Center, Highway 90 Center, Culebra Road Drop-off Center, Frio City Road Drop-off Center, Rigsby Road Drop-off Center

If you are interested in grabbing the final mulch product for your garden, Bitters Brush Recycling Center will have mulch available free two weeks after Christmas, according to the Solid Waste Management Department.

Stop by our table in the Children’s Nature Play Area or one of the Greeters’ tables to pick up a Grab-N-Go kit filled with activities to help you explore the park. This month’s theme is Geology. The kit contains information about rocks including what you can find in the park and a fun geology-themed craft to make at home! No registration is necessary. Supplies are limited.

San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game presented by H-E-B 5PM ALAMODOME

Since 1978, the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game has been a showcase of the area’s top high school football talent with a goal of shining a light on local talent and enhancing their opportunities for college scholarships. The game was originally formed by the Kiwanis Club and later operated by Kids Sports Network until 2013. Since 2014, the game has been managed by San Antonio Sports and held in the Alamodome following the All-American Bowl, which features more than 100 of the nation’s best players and is televised on NBC. Due to COVID-19, the 2021 All-American Bowl was cancelled and the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game was played at Heroes Stadium. The game featured 112 seniors representing 62 San Antonio area high schools.

Blood donations, especially types O negative and positive, are still urgently needed

Health officials said there is not enough blood on hand to treat trauma cases and patients who need emergency surgeries and procedures. The facilities are open during daylight hours. Same-day appointments and walk-in donations are being accepted. Officials said donors can call 210-731-5590 for information or to make an appointment, or they can visit SouthTexasBlood.org.
