A woman is suing American Dream Mall in New Jersey after she said she was hit in the face with a knife while riding a Nickelodeon-themed attraction.

Xianghua Nan was on the Loud House ride in the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park inside the mall when “a Swiss [Army] knife became airborne and struck plaintiff directly in the face,” News 12 New Jersey reported.

The incident happened on July 29, 2025, NJ.com reported.

Nan asked that the ride be stopped and an employee picked up the knife from the floor of the ride, the lawsuit said.

She said she was bleeding and was in pain, and as she was getting medical treatment at the scene, “one of the defendant’s employees was observed laughing.” Nan’s attorneys say that it showed a “disregard for patron safety.”

Nan was taken to an area hospital for treatment for several injuries, including facial laceration, bruising, spinal trauma, and back injuries, and she had incurred more than $13,000 in bills, the lawsuit states.

It is not clear how the back and spine injuries were caused by the alleged incident, as court filings do not explain how they happened, NJ.com reported.

Her attorneys claim that there were no verbal instructions from employees for riders to empty their pockets.

The mall’s website states that knives and other weapons, including replicas, are banned on the property.

When asked by NJ.com and News 12 New Jersey, mall officials declined to comment due to the case.

The Loud House Road Trip ride is a family-friendly magic carpet-type ride, according to Coasterpedia.net.
