He was shot as he walked into Makedaβs Butter Cookies. Employees of the bakery told WHBQ that someone drove up, and then shot and killed him.
Young Dolph was based in Memphis and started breaking onto the local scene with mixtapes, including his 2008 debut, βPaper Route Campaignβ before becoming known nationwide in 2014 with his mixtape βHigh Class Street Music 4β³ and the single βPreach,β according to All Music.
He released his first studio album, βKing of Memphis,β in 2016, according to WHBQ.
His music made it to the Billboard charts as a solo performer, and with collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion and O.T. Genasis, according to All Music.
He had two songs hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart, once in 2016 and another in 2017.
Young Dolph released two albums this year, βDum and Dummer 2β³ and βPAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi.β
He was born Adoph Thornton, Jr. in Chicago on Aug. 11, 1985, according to All Music.
Young Dolph gave back to the Memphis community by handing out Thanksgiving turkeys through Memphis Athletic Ministries. He also frequently spoke to schoolchildren and donated money to his former high school, Hamilton High School, WHBQ reported.
