SAN DIEGO — Keep your eye on the ball and make the catch. And if you happen to be holding a baby, snag it one-handed.

A California woman made an amazing catch during the sixth inning as the San Diego Padres hosted the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.

When Chicago Cubs outfielder Jake Marisnick fouled off a pitch from Yu Darvish into the upper deck down the first-base line at Petco Park, Lexy Whitmore made a one-handed grab while holding her 3-month-old son, Maverick Whitmore, in her left arm, KNSD reported. Whitmore’s highlight-reel catch came after the ball bounded from the upper deck to the lower stands.

The fans got a kick out of the San Diego native, who now lives in the San Francisco area and was visiting her hometown while her husband is training in the Navy reserve.

“So when the guy hit the foul ball, it came down,” Whitmore told KNSD. “I saw it bounce, and it -- honestly, it just kind of came right to me. I didn’t think it was like this amazing catch -- and I didn’t think it would go viral. But it, you know, came to me and there was no doubt in my mind that I wasn’t gonna catch it.”

Whitmore, a marketing manager for a San Francisco area tech company, made the catch next to her 9-year-old daughter, Lily, and her mother, who were also attending the afternoon game.

The Padres gave Whitmore some love by sharing the video of her catch on Twitter, using the caption, “Moms are amazing.”

For Whitmore, making the catch while holding her son was like a day at the park.

“He’s in my arms at all times,” Whitmore told KNSD. “I’m always aware of where he is and what we’re doing. Honestly, this (left) arm’s kind of buff ‘cause I always have him in this arm and I’m doing things with this (right) one, so it’s just another kind of thing that us moms do.

“When it became this big viral thing and people are sharing, I was kind of surprised, but I think it’s because it’s a little glimpse into all of the multitasking mamas out there that kind of do, you know, all these things on the daily, but it’s just a little clip into that.”

Whitmore credits her daughter, who is playing softball, KTTV reported.

“We would be practicing and playing catch,” Whitmore told the television station. “And I would have Maverick in my arm.”

The Padres have reached out to Whitmore and hope to have her out on the field, perhaps to throw out the first pitch before a game.

“I’m sure I could do that with the baby in my hands, too,” Whitmore told KTTV.
