Showtime to revive ‘Dexter’ for limited series

Showtime announced that it is bringing back “Dexter,” the serial-killer drama that ran from 2006 to 2013, for a limited 10-episode series that will premiere in the fall of 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show will reunite star Michael C. Hall and executive producer Clyde Phillips, the website reported. Hall will reprise his role as Dexter Morgan, who went on a self-imposed exile as a lumberjack when the series ended in 2013, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Dexter was a serial killer who targeted other serial killers, Variety reported. He also held a job as a blood-spatter expert for the Miami Police Department.

Production is scheduled to begin early next year, the website reported.

“'Dexter' is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment for Showtime, said in a statement. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”

“Dexter” was nominated for 10 Golden Globe awards during its eight-season run. Hall was nominated five consecutive times from 2007 through 2011, times, winning best actor in a drama series in 2010. John Lithgow won a Golden Globe in 2010 for his role as a supporting actor.

The show also was nominated for 24 Emmy Awards, winning four times. Lithgow won the award in 2010. along with director Steve Shill.

The series also won a Peabody Award in 2007.
