Justin Michael Perkins, 37, of Davenport, was arrested Thursday and was charged with one count of child endangerment-multiple acts, KWQC reported. The charge is a Class B felony punishable up to 25 years in prison, the television station reported.

According to Scott County online jail records, Perkins posted $10,000 bail and was released 90 minutes after his arrest.

According to an arrest affidavit, on July 12, the Davenport Police Department opened an investigation involving an unresponsive 2-year-old boy at an area hospital, KLJB reported. The child was diagnosed with a perforated bowel. An X-ray revealed several rib fractures of “varying ages,” the television station reported.

The boy remained in the hospital until Aug. 4, KLJB reported.

“Due to the three different healing stages of rib fractures on the child, there would have been three different intentional assaults inflicted upon the child causing multiple serious injuries within the time span of four to six weeks,” police said in the arrest affidavit. “It wasn’t until the victim was unresponsive that a family member was consulted for advice, which led to calling 911.”

Perkins told police he and the child’s mother were the only caretakers for the boy since March, KWQC reported. Perkins also told police he did not know how the boy suffered the injuries, the television station reported.

Perkins is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
