Shamaya Lynn, 21, was killed at an apartment in suburban Orlando, according to the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

Lynn was participating in a Zoom call when the shooting occurred, WFTV reported. A co-worker called 911 after seeing the toddler in the background and then hearing a noise, Altamonte Springs police said in a news release. The caller said she saw Lynn fall backward and never return to the call, police said.

It was not immediately clear how old the child was, or Lynn’s relationship to the toddler.

When officers and paramedics arrived at the Altamonte Springs apartment, Lynn was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Investigators determined that the child had found the loaded gun, which was left unsecured by an adult, and discharged it.

It was not clear whether the gun belonged to Lynn or another adult in the apartment.

However, the Altamonte Springs Police Department said in its news release that the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are working with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed.
