According to WTVM, Francis Ella Cook, a resident of the Motts community near Smiths Station, turned 108 on Thursday.

The widow, whose husband died when the couple were in their 60s, is a mother of 10 and a grandmother of more than 20, WTVM reported. She also was a longtime Phenix City Health Care employee, according to the news outlet.

In 2019, the Smiths Station City Council recognized Cook with a centenarian proclamation on her 105th birthday, the Opelika Observer reported.

“I was thinking about all the historical events and periods you’ve lived through, all the things you’ve witnessed in your lifetime, and it just gives me goosebumps,” Mayor F.L. “Bubba” Copeland said at the meeting, according to the newspaper.

Cook attributed her longevity to being “good and (staying) on the right side,” the Observer reported at the time.
