Two San Antonio educators are finalists for Texas Teacher of the Year

San Antonio has double the representation in the search for 2021 Texas Teacher of the Year. Adriana Abundis, a dual language math teacher at Lanier High School, and Lisa Barry, who teaches 5th grade reading, writing and social studies at Woodridge Elementary in Alamo Heights were both by named finalists by the Texas Association of School Administrators. Abundis and Barry are two of six teachers selected from across the state. San Antonio is the only Texas city represented by two teachers. TASA’s selection process began on Aug. 29, when a panel of judges made up of representatives of Texas teacher associations and last year’s finalists picked the six educators from the 40 Texas Regional Teachers of the Year. The six finalists will be interviewed on Sept. 12 by a panel made up of leaders within the teaching community. Two state-level winners will be chosen - one from elementary education and the other from secondary - and one will be picked to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program. Winners will be announced during the association’s virtual convention on Sept. 30.
