If you thought Beyonce was broken up about Target refusing to sell her most recent album, you better think again. Not only does the singer not need the chain to sell hard copies of her CD (she’s already hit No. 1 on almost all the charts, thankyouverymuch), but she’s also managed to find both a classy and charitable way to show Target just how big of a mistake they really made. (For themselves, not her.. duh.)
According to a fan on Instagram on Friday, December 20, Beyonce popped into a Walmart for a bit of holiday shopping. She was clearly feeling the desire to give back this Christmas season when she bought each of her fellow shoppers $50 gift cards!
“Beyonce just hit up wal mart and purchased everyone in the store $50 gift cards,” wrote the fan. “Beyonce for president!”
While it’s not clear which location Beyonce chose to grace with her presence, she was in New York the previous night to celebrate her album. (We’re guessing the lucky shoppers were somewhere in New Jersey.)
Beyonce’s generous act comes just days after Target refused to sell her album, which was first released on iTunes exclusively.
“We focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs,” said Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski. “When a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections. [...] We are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as other formats.”
It’s sort of hard to blame Target for their decision when they’re just trying to stay in business like everybody else. Then again, Walmart still chose to carry Beyonce’s album in stores despite the digital release. Not only did Walmart get some seriously good promotion out of a single Instagram pic, but their customers got free cash!
Now that’s what we call a win-win.
